Kristin Peterson PA-C/ WEMT Co-founder |
Kristin is
one of the co-founders and co-owners of Katabatic Consulting. She has a
wide variety of medical experience in family practice, urgent care,
emergency medicine, and orthopedics in such diverse areas as Washington,
Utah, Colorado, Nepal and Antarctica. Kristin is a Board Certified
Physician Assistant and Wilderness EMT. Kristin is an avid climber,
telemark skier and sea kayaker, which has provided opportunities for
combining her medical skills in a wide variety of environmental
settings. While working for the United States Antarctic Program she designed and implemented the Field Camp Medicine Program for the remote base camps around Antarctica. Kristin was a member of the medical rescue team that initiated a winter medevac from the South Pole station in 2002. As a member of the Joint Antarctic Search and Rescue Team, she provided medical direction and instruction as well as participating as an active rescue member. Kristin has served as a field medical provider in Antarctica for the past 5 seasons. She has traveled extensively in the Khumbu region in Nepal while a member of the 2008 Everest ER medical team and teaching wilderness medicine courses at the Khumbu Climbing School. She is the lead instructor for Katabatic Mountain School. Kristin currently is a member of the Divide Rock Rescue and Medical Team in Divide, Colorado while staying active in the clinical setting during the deep field off-season. |

Mike Tayloe WEMT-P |
Co-founder
and co-owner of Katabatic Consulting, Tayloe has been involved in
emergency pre-hospital care for nearly 20 years. From certification as
an open water lifeguard, high altitude field camp/expedition medic,
professional ski patroller, flight medic and advanced life support
critical care paramedic; he has molded his pre-hospital experience to
fit a wide spectrum of environments.
As a river guide, climber, sea kayaker and outdoor enthusiast, he has used the wilderness setting as an ambulance and testing ground for many years. As a member of the Joint Antarctic Search and Rescue Team, he has designed and implemented many new protocols and equipment uses in the polar environment. As a member of the 2008 Everest ER medical team, Tayloe coordinated medical and rescue courses for the climbing Sherpa and climbing guides at Everest base camp. During the Northern Latitude winters he works as a high altitude expedition paramedic, medical mountaineer and base camp manager in Antarctica, with responsibilities ranging from medical care and logistics to airframe coordination and day to day operations. Tayloe currently works for two full-time paramedic services while teaching pre-hospital emergency care for several education departments in Colorado. He is a Wilderness Medicine instructor and teaches courses through Katabatic Mountain School. He is currently an active member of two ERT/S.W.A.T. teams as a TEMS medic in Colorado and runs the Divide Rock Rescue Team in Divide, Colorado. |

Currently Carey is serving as the Emergency Department Director at Saint Thomas Moore Hospital in Canyon City, Colorado. As an active member with the Wilderness Medical Society and an avid whitewater kayaker, telemark skier, and outdoor enthusiast, he blends his emergency medical skills in both the clinical and wilderness settings. As medical advisor for several wilderness outdoor summer programs in the Colorado mountains he has reviewed and assessed medical protocols, direction, and equipment selection for these settings. As a bonus for us here at Katabatic, we are blessed with his medical illustration skills, many of which have appeared in national publications and a published book. | ||
